1. SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

 

It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school , or when participating in a school - organised event outside normal school hours.

 

Aims and objectives

 

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform :

- Promotes a sense of pride in the school ;

- Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school ;

- Is practical and smart ;

- Identifies the children with school ;

- Prevents the children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class ;

- Makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance ;

- Is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by both parents ;

- Is designed with health and safety in mind. We provide the full list of items needed for school uniform below.

 

Our uniform consists of :

 

Mondays and Tuesdays -

Boys : Navy blue check short sleeve shirt with Navy blue knee length shorts. -

Girls : Navy blue check knee length dress ( Leggings not permitted).

 

Wednesdays :

All pupils are expected to appear in their physical education kit which comprises of : a white t-shirt and white shorts carrying the school logo with blue side lines for both boys and girls.

 

Thursdays and Fridays - Boys : White polo shirt with a navy blue collar and navy blue knee length short .

- Girls : White polo shirt with a navy blue collar and navy blue knee length skirt.

 

SHOES :

Plain black shoes and white socks. 2 school uniforms and a pair of sports outfit will be offered to pupils by the school as part of their fee package. All items of clothings must be labelled with the child’s name. The school will not take responsibility for any lost items but we will do all that we can to locate them provided they are well labelled.

 

JEWELLERY

On health and safety grounds, we do not allow students to wear jewelry to our school. The exceptions to this rule are earing studs for girls (no more than one pair) in pierced ears or wrist watch. We ask the children to either remove these objects during PE and games or cover them with a plaster to prevent them from causing injury.

 

MAKE –UP AND ‘TATOOS :

Make-up including nail vanish is not allowed to be worn during normal school hours. The school does not permit children to wear ‘tatoo’ style markings. Any child found wearing make up or a tatoo style marking will be asked to remove it. HAIRSTYLES The school does not permit children to have extreme hairstyles that could serve as distractions to others. All girls must have their natural hair. No artificial hair or extensions will be allowed. Hair must be braided or combed neathly. Hair bands must be of natural colours(black, grey etc). All boys must have neathly cut hair .

 

FOOT WEAR

We require all children to wear plain black shoes or trainers. Boots can be worn but only if they are plain black and lower than the knee, made of leather and do not have a high heel. If any child arrive at school wearing anything other than the approved foot wear, we will contact the parent or carer and ask that they bring the correct shoes to school.

 

HOODED TOPS AND HATS Hooded

tops are allowed to be worn as a jacket but will be removed once inside the school building. Hats are not allowed inside the school building.

 

 

2. DISCIPLINE / NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES

 

Staffs at The Rock International Nursery and Primary School apply consistently and clearly a hierachy of negative consequences(our warnings’) if a pupil breaks a school rule. This is to ensure a safe and effective learning environment in which positive, happy, healthy relationships flourish.

 

WE have a series of consiquences for not following school rules :

1. First Warning- recorded at the front of the room

2. Second Warning – recorded at the front of the room

3. Third Warning – recorded at the front of the room and the pupil is sent to their peer class for a time out to complete work/ and or reflection sheet (10 – 20 minutes)

4. Fourth Warning – Pupil receives one play time detention and incident is recorded in the detention slip, parents are informed that day and the incident is recorded against the child’s profile.

 

- The school keeps electronic records of incidents of misbehaviour. - The class teacher records incidents with reference to the warning systems - We also keep records of serious incidents that occour at break and lunch times - The head teacher keeps records of any pupil who is excluded for fixed term or who is permanently excluded. - Racist and homophobic incidents are also recorded.

 

 

3. CONFIDENTIALITY OF ALL SCHOOL RECORDS

 

It is the policy of the school to maintain the confidentiality of all information contained in student’s files.  Parents are requested to inform the school well in advance when a transcript or transfer report is needed for another school so that the necessary arrangements can be made.

 

 

4. MEDICINE IN SCHOOL POLICY

 

Aims

1. To support individual pupils with medical needs to achieve regular attendance

2. To reduce cross infection risks between pupils, to increase whole-school attendance

3. To ensure that medicines given in school are stored and administered safely Parents should not send pupils to school if they are unwell.

 

Non- prescribed Medicines The school will not be able to store or give medicines that have not been prescribed to a pupil(e.g piriton or cough medicines) . Please make arrangement to come into school if you want to give your pupil this medicines.

 

Prescribed Medicines In line with other school policies, if medicines are prescribed 3 times a day, the expectation is that parents or carers will give these medicines outside of school hours. If medicines are prescribed 4 times a day the school strongly encourages parents or carers to make arrangements to come into school to administer these medicines themselves. Pupils who are to receive medicines will be sent to the school office and those of the nursery pupils will be accompanied by an adult.

 

Self Management Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own medicine from an early age. A good example of this is pupils using their own asthma inhaler. Parents /carers must still complete a medicine record form stating that the pupil will self administer and sign the form.. the school will store the medicine apprioprately.

 

 

EMERGENCY TREATMENT AND MEDICINE ADMINISTRATION

 

In accordance legal regulations, the school disposes of a small emergency pharmacy for the rapid treatment of light injuries. Its components : Alcool 90 ; Yellow Betadine ; Antiseptic powder ; Oxygenated water ; Absorbent cotton wool ; Compress ; Balm.

 

Parents/carers  will have to sign a consent form if they will like the school to administer first aid to their child /children in case of emergency otherwise The school will call for medical assistance and the parent/carer or named emergency contact will be notified. Our school hospitals are : Polylinique de L’aeroport in Bonapriso precisely Cabinet Medical Dr. Nana and «  Polyclinic du Rond Point Maetur » in Bonamoussadi precisely the Pediatric  unit headed by  Dr. Henoch Kapahou.

 

 

MAJOR HEALTH CONCERNS : COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

 

Chicken Pox ,Conjunctivitis, Glandular Fever ,Hepatitis, Lice ,Measles ,Measles (German) ,Mumps,  Ringworm, Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough etc ,requires exclusion for the period of tratment and resumption upon Production of medical certificate after complete recovery.

 

 

F. INSURANCE / ACCIDENTS

 

The school disposes of an insurance policy covering the child in school and his movements during such time and within reasonable time lapse. The child is covered whether he of she is the cause or the victim of the accident. Upon resumption of classes, the school will establish a list of pupils who should attend the school and submit to the insurer. Parents will be informed at the begining of the school year on the areas covered by the insurance policy and request their written authorization on the measures deemed necessary in the event of an accident.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION :

 

All injured children, however slightly, should immediately notify their teacher. After an illness, a medical certificate shall be issued.

 

G. ACADEMIC HONESTY

 

Students need to be aware of the importance of academic honesty.  Expectations for ethical behaviour arise from the philosophy and values inherent and explicit in all school programmes.  All students are expected to participate in the programme as structured and required by the school and to comply with all subject-specific regulations and internal school deadlines.

 

A. Definition of dishonest behaviour

1. Cheating:  using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, assistance and/or aids in an effort to gain an unfair advantage.

2. Plagiarism: presenting, in whole or in part, another person's words or ideas as one's own without giving proper acknowledgement of sources.

3. Collusion:  when a student supports another student in committing academic dishnesty.  While collaboration is often encouraged, unauthorised collaboration is not permitted

 

B. Examples:  Academic dishonesty includes ; but is not limited to the following:

1. Presenting materials taken from sources, such as books, periodicals, newspapers or the Internet, without appropriate documentation.

2. Copying another student's homework, test, quiz, project, book report, assignment, or take-home test.

3. Allowing another student to copy a homework assignment, test, quiz, project, book report, assignment, or take-home test.

4. Receiving unauthorized help on an assignment from another person, either live or over the Internet.

5. Changing answers on a test, assignment, or project after grading.

6. Using programmable technology (iPods, calculators, phones to name a few) in a manner not specified by the teacher..

7. Using concealed notes on a test.

 

C.  All cases of academic dishonesty will be reported to an administrator and result in the following consequences:

1. First Level:  Parents contacted and apprised of the incident by administrator.  No grade is given for work submitted.

2. Second Level:  Parent conference; monitoring service; no grade will be awarded for the subject.

3. Third Level: Suspension appropriate to level of offense

 

 

H. OUR NO ! NO !

 

1. SHOUTING

The Rock International Bilingual Nursery and Primary School is a NO SHOUTING school. There may be times when you need to slightly raise your voice but shouting at pupils or other adults in anger is unacceptable and may be a disciplinary matter.

 

 

2. HUMILIATION

This is an unacceptable form of punishment and must not be used at TRIS.

 

 

3. ANTI-BULLYING

Bullying is actions that are meant to be hurtful and which happens on a regular basis. Bullying can be direct (physical or verbal) or indirect( e.g being ignoredor not spoken to). All are treated extremely seriously at The Rock International Bilingual Nursery and Primary School. All pupils are thought the phrase SAY NO GO TELL !!!- as a way of preventing. In school we have a secure box on the corridor in which pupils can post a slip if they want to talk to a member of staff about bullying.The box is opened every 2 days by the head teacher. Any pupil that has posted a slip will then be given an opportunuty to speak in confidence with a member of staff. The school does not tolerate bullying of any kind. If we discover that an act of bullying and intimidation has taken place, we act immediately to stop any further occurance of such behaviour

 

 

4. RACISM

Like bullying, racism can exist in any school, even those where its people are all made up of one ethnicity. A racist incident is defined as any incident which is percieved as racist by the victim or  any other person. In TRIS, racist incidennts are treated as seriously unacceptable conduct.

PARENTS/CARERS The school works collaboratively with parents /carers so pupils receive consistent messages on how to behave. We aim to build a supportive dialogue between home and the school. We inform parents/ carers immediately(no later than by the end of the day) if we have concerns about their pupil’s welfare or behaviour- this includes if a pupil receives a detention or if there is a pattern of regularly receiving warnings. We expect parents to :

1.  Be aware that we have school rules( which are communicated to parents)

2. Co-operate  with the school

3. Support their child’s learning

4. Support the school’s decision when applying consequences to deal with any specific incident/issue

 

If parents have any concern on the way their child has been treated, they should contact the head teacher.

 

 

J. SCHOOL INTERNAL RULES & REGULATIONS

 

- School shall start in the morning at 7 :30 am for both Nursery and Primary and shall close in the afternoon at 1pm for the Nursery and 2 :30pm for the Primary from Mondays to Fridays.

- No child shall be allowed to leave school before  the official closing time without the authorization of the head teacher. - Children should appear in school acceptably clean

- Pupils should go back home immediately after closing - Name of the child should be legibly written on textbooks and exercise books

- All books destroyed or lost shall be replaced by the family

- All collective movements (entering into class, going out, marching on the line etc, in the courtyard on the stairs, in the corridors)shall be effected in an orderly manner.

- Parents shall be provided with a school identification badge for each child. This document will serve as a pass to collect children from school during closing hours. In case of loss of this badge, the parent or carer must send a written note to inform the school  authority. NO CHILD will be released without proper identification.

- A pupil who arrives at school late or who stays away from school should justify, with a note from his parents, the reason for his lateness or absence.

 

PUPILS SHALL BE FORBIDDEN TO :

 

- Go into the classroom during break

- Open or close windows - Touch any teaching equipment or material or any utensils or apparatus found in school without permission

- Bring the following to school : knives, pins, bottles, scissors ,pins or any dangerous object that may cause injury.

- Play with rulers or pencils or carry them into the mouths.

- Drink from the tap - Stand still under the sun

- Pull, push, shove or hit their mates

- Get involved in any rough play as may likely cause accidents,run at full speed, throw stones, climb trees,or hang on branches, window panes, doors and walls.

 

 

K.   TELEPHONE USE

 

Students in emergencies may use the school telephone.  No cell phones are permitted. They must remain hidden in school bags during the day.

 

 

L.  RECOGNITION

 

Staff  of TRIS take every opportunity to recognize with positive points, the good choices that pupils are making. The following are our ALways Child Criteria for receiving an award

1. ALWAYS makes excellent behaviour choices

2. ALWAYS follows the school rules

3. ALWAYS wears correct uniform

4. ALWAYS wears the PE KIT during sports

5. ALWAYS reads at home at least 3 times each week

6. ALWAYS completes their home work

7. ALWAYS displays the ROCK values

 

AS the pupils reach different milestones in the academic year, they receive a prize ranging from bronze, silver, gold and platinium. In order for a pupil to receive the gold award by the end of the year, they will need to receive approximately 10 points per week.

 

 

TRIS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE YEAR END EVENT

 

TRIS organizes a yearly event that recognizes and celebrates excellence across all fields of study and discipline within the school.

 

 

CULTURAL EVENTS AND ASSEMBLIES

 

Cultural events are organised each term.  These are regular assemblies celebrating students’ work as well as full-scale productions.  Parents are encouraged to attend. Annually, TRIS holds a Science Fair (February) and an Art Fair (May).
